Theme: Enlightenment

To Let

An old lady
in the afternoon of her life
placed a 'To let' board
in front of her modest home...

Will anybody really come, she thought?
But soon men - both rich and poor,
showed interest - the rich to invest
and the poor for a roof to take shelter

A young man in early thirties enquired,
'Good lady, what are your terms and conditions?
Should the prospective tenant
belong to any particular faith?'

'No, not at all,
I need just a human -
humane he should be
to water the little plants,
and for the little birds and squirrels
spread grains every morn...'

'May I have a look, gentle lady?'
'Please do come in.'

When the man, liberal and kind,
set his feet in, and on looking back
he finds none behind him,
and the four walls to his surprise
moved to where the earth meets the sky...

'That is a miracle', he thought,
'Is the earth just one home?'
