Why this Heinous Crime?

In spite of being a part of cosmos
Why can’t man
come out of his dark thoughts
and desist from the girl child
before she is born…?

Is that not an irony,
men of wisdom committing this crime!

Don’t we love our mother,
and wink at the cutie next door?

Don’t we chant
the name of the goddess of wealth
with prosperity to bless us?

Don’t we pray
the goddess of learning
to endow us with wisdom?

Don’t we offer
flowers and sweetmeats
to the goddess of power
to empower us to be achievers?

Don’t we climb
hills and tread rugged terrains
to say our obeisance
to the goddess to give us protection?

And how can we kill
the same divinity
in her embryo form?
Is that not ghastly and a pity
beyond all civilized norms!
