The Arab spring has a wonderful air
of grass roots democratic fervour, as though
it was a simple matter to declare
justice and right, the freedom to do so
self-generated, and break the status quo.
The Arab spring emerges in its thousands
on the streets, congregating in a square,
something democratic in the raised hands,
the passionate chanting stirring the air,
crackdowns unable to smother it there.
The Arab spring is a movement of substance
breaking the surface of Islamic law
with its thought out methods that brooked no hindrance
till now, till now! – O how the fatal flaw
that made dictatorship the will of Allah!
The Arab spring is a bold enterprise,
of its citizens’ grievances a weave,
a vision of the ideal life each spies,
that must deliver, one has to believe,
to begin to live how the others live.
