An Occasion for Champagne

Wow! What jubilation
At Red Bank train station!
Asif and I meet:
Each other, we greet
After fifty years;
Childhood reappears;
Together once again,
An occasion for champagne.

We talk and talk,
Talk and talk,
Past midnight -
What a delight!
We forget time -
How sublime!
Together once again,
An occasion for champagne.

Two days we spend together;
I find a loving brother
Who spreads cheer
Far and near,
Who celebrates life
Despite strife,
Who I want to see again,
And toast with champagne.
