Theme: Patriotism

The Norwegian Patriot

In his own private world he was a hero,
and it was no fantasy, the day he
stepped out, bristling with guns, ready to go
on the beat, a policeman about his duty.

His own kind recognised only too late
his enemy stance, their accustomed trust
abandoned, he was deciding their fate,
life by life, took as he saw fit and just.

He was saving Norway, and what more proof
he was correct than the reality
conforming to his blueprint, he aloof
from the tragedy, just about his duty.

Every adult has a mission in life,
he could be granted his, he still believes
he was right, though courtroom and prison have
him held, and Norway mourns those young lost lives.
