What was wonderful in the past burns brighter now than future promise I believe it was a fool's game
Throw in your charm, young ladies and along comes a man adventuresome, passionate, in love with the world but it was a fool's game
A gamble you were all cat eyes and tight-lipped mysterious smiles leading me, leading me where only I knew the way
And yet for all those powerful thrusts gripping flesh, pulling hair, pressing lips nothing remains it was a fool's game
Because the old gets into the young bones fail, bodies retreat and now I am small against the streets where once my walk was a dance, and in dreams I flew far and away and down the lane.
