Poem for the New Year

Fragrance
Flowing from far
Electronic channels
Heralding
The end of the year
Flowers and music
Tuning the
Beginning
Sending down
The loads of precious
Books – a unique
Way to bid goodbye
To the vanishing year
And greeting the imminent days
Who are up and
About to show
Their promising faces
From behind
The hills, awake
From the end-of-the-year
Celebrations  slowly
Opening their
Intoxicated eye-lids
To lead the way
To the New Year!

But you are
Always awake
As ever blooming-
Awake spreading
The fragranced days
You searched meaning
And sent  the bouquet
For the New Year
Of Rainbow Flowers!

Blessed are the ways!
Blessed are the days!
Blessed are the brains!

Whose scent was sent
Giving hope for a
Humanity that will
Survive and thrive
Despite the flowers
Have been trampled
In the name of peace-

Peace is not a piece
Of cake to be
Doled out
After the dictators
Are lynched to death
And thrown into
Bins for a display
Of the same
Enigmatic cruelty!
What about those
Unnamed sufferers
Whose children's
Stomachs are empty,
Dreaming
Of full meals?
After the evacuation flights
Alighted like vultures
On the dead carcass
Fighting for their
Share of the dead
Flesh and bones.

Euphoric crowds
Cheer for a change
From without
Mirage in the desert
So dear to the deer!
But keeps him thirsty
And tired like
The parched landscape
The dear deer
Moves on and on
On a path where
The end will be
The beginning of
An unending Despair
Who shouts only
Two cheers
For democracy!

Comment three cheers to the poem sir..it spells the magnanimity of the loss mirroring the feelings of the lost..the soul-stirring images say it all....let's hope that atleast a few consciences are pricked to take us from mirages to oases.

Comment poem for the new year is a coruscating portrait of the contemporary political ambitions of the mighty and the powerful. Yes the world moves and moves dangerously to recall history and the excesses committed by it. The poet is lambasting the self espoused champions of humanity unleashing attacks on the hapless in the name of defending humanity and ensuring a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
share of the dead, flesh and bones are grotesque images employed judiciously to communicate the sense of doom permeating the modern ambiance and the joblessness induced by the imperial arrogance. The poet is aware of the post modernist concerns of acceptability of the given conditions ,
The parched landscape seems to suggest that it is parched not because there is not enough in this world to feed generations but the blood stained images of hungry colonial designs are refusing for the rehabilitation of the dislodged conscience. The poem is impressive in terms of images and ideas and reflects the shoddy imagination of the the powers that be. Good. Keep it up.
