In striving for excellence in his works
a man is kingly: royalty bespeaks
from ancient times this quality that makes
a people cohere in awe that partakes
of excellence, godlike on earth that walks.
Kingly too is the countenance of leaders
whose excellence is shown forth in ideas
that down to ordinary folk it filters
as a grasp of that which truly matters
that sustains their lives and their manufactures.
In the home, on the street, or in the workplace,
excellence in each feature, in each face,
the royal stamp endows life with, whose grace
lifts the ordinary; always, we chase
it as an ideal, to sit as commonplace.
In fashion, in art, or in fantasy,
but in religion, too, the ecstasy
draws the human mind, above all to see
the pure excellence of divinity
whose forms in time reach to eternity. |
