I read Shakespeare as a youth, and that under
Some constraint; his characters, contrary
To taste, mine, used too many words, with thunder
And main, or in quiet soliloquy –
Quite unnatural; but that was theatre,
Stage of speeches, extended dialogue,
In rippling perfect phrasing, to all there
Gifted, each character an idealogue.
Yet, call me a cynic, Shakespeare the playwright
Is much feted; his perfect characters
Revealing human traits each one in ‘say right’
What a man would feel in parameters
Wordless, express less in pre-meditation,
As would make Shakespeare the dramatization.
