Theme: Desire

How Nice!

If I can slip through drops of rain
Without getting wet,
If I can swim across puddles
Without busting buoyant bubbles,
If I can hop from flower to flower
Without frittering their fragrance,
If I can mingle with butterflies
Without stealing colours from their wings…
How nice it will be, dear!

If I can climb an ivy quietly
Without alarming a relaxing leaf,
If I can sprint along a shore
Without upsetting a meditating crab,
If I can watch dusk or dawn
Without scaring a bird on wing,
If I can sway with ecstatic crops in breeze
Without startling a comely farm-hand...
How nice it will be, dear!

Comment the perception shows imagination, poetic sensibility and love for nature. The impossibility of desire gives the poem a tender, touch. i would have loved to borrow colours from the butterflies and it would be wonderful to get wet in the rain, why seek escape without getting wet?
The use of so many sibilants- 25 in such a short poem makes it a sad poem.
