Discreet Ganga

When the crackling embers collapse
In the achromatic eddy of thy mantra,
And the disembodied spirit escapes
Into a celestial no-man’s land,
I am left alone to rue the loss
Of hope and friendship.

Then discreetly you soften
The slap of the waves,
Lower the swell of the tides,
Bring the homing birds in,
And substitute the smoke and dirge
With sweet fog and tinkling bells!

The Ganga is one of the most fascinating rivers in the world, which not only waters the vast Gangetic plains of northern India but also sustains the lives of millions of people. It nurtures their corporeal and spiritual lives and completes the philosophical circle of life and death. To know the Ganga is to know the universe; is to know ourselves.
