Long ago, when I was young
Thou came to me in the form of
The ignorant, The needy, The famished, and The destitute;
I did not recognize Thee, O Lord!
I gave Thee nothing.
Now, I am old ... I come to thy refuge.
With wisdom lately won.
Now I know that I am the ignorant, I am the needy, I am the famished,
I am the diseased, and I am the destitute.
I beseech Thee Lord, not to say: "Old man, I know thee not".
