Dr. Sutapa Chaudhuri was born and brought up in Kolkata, India. She graduated from Calcutta University in English literature and subsequently obtained her M.A, M. Phil & Ph. D. degrees in English from the same university. She has traveled extensively, both in India and abroad and studied briefly at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, USA. Dr. Chaudhuri has lived significant parts of her life in the U.S.A and Japan; and spent 10 long years in Gujarat, where she has taught at the Dept. of English, Bhavnagar University, Bhavnagar, Gujarat. She now lives in Kolkata with her daughter, her mother and scientist husband. Currently she is Assistant Professor of English at Dr. Kanailal Bhattacharyya College, Howrah, and a Guest Lecturer at the P.G. Dept of English, Calcutta University, India. Her research interests include Women Studies and poetry. She is an avid reader, an academic and a creative writer. A bilingual poet and a translator, she writes in Bengali and English. Apart from critical essays in various books and journals of repute, she has several books, travelogues, translations and essays for children to her credit. Broken Rhapsodies is her first book of poems. Her second collection of poems Touching Nadir has seen the light of day in June, 2014.
