It started at a coffee table. Kushal has had no formal training in cartooning and very little (as you might deduce) in writing other than actual experience on the campus newspaper at the University in 1989. The creative outlet was exactly what he was looking for, and he began submitting cartoons to magazines and newspaper. Kushal’s first encounter with newspaper and magazine cartooning was in college where he used to draw cartoons for his friends, leading local and national newspaper on the canteen coffee table.
He says he’s been drawing cartoon characters since the age of six, when he started copying pictures in comic books. “After about ten years,” he said, “I’d copied so many different Artists, illustrators and cartoonists and borrowed such a variety of styles that no one could tell who I was copying any more. I had arrived.”
It was a rough start, but Kushal refined his talents and soon sold his first cartoon. Seeing himself in print, and check in hand, Kushal set about reinventing himself as a cartoonist. Over the years, his day jobs changed, but his cartoon routine stayed the same. Working early mornings, lunch hours, and late into the night, he continued drawing, submitting, and building his website. He bagged several national and international awards in his credit like All India Cartoon contest by Warner Bros, All India Hindustan Times Cartoon contest etc. Enjoy hundreds of funny cartoons everyday at - Jon McClenahan, Three time ‘Emmy Award’ winner, Founder – Animation Director of Startoons International, Chicago, USA. |
