I retired as the President of the South Asian University, New Delhi in November 2019. Before that I was the Director of India International Centre New Delhi from 2008 to 2014, I was the principal of Hindu college Delhi University for just over 10 years from 1998 to 2008. My primary subject is English literature in which I did my Ph.D. the subject of which was the plays of Byron. I have also two degrees in law, the masters in law being from the University of British Columbia in Canada. Now I write mainly on higher education, Mahabharata and Indian culture. I have half dozen published books, two being on Mahabharata and many articles. I have made several presentations in both national and international conferences.my other interests are music and Japanese style flower arrangement in which I follow the Sogetsu school.
