I taught at two colleges--Vidyasagar College, Kolkata and Chandannagar Govt. College, West Bengal for a little over two years, at a Comprehensive Secondary School in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for three years, at the Federal Advanced Teachers' College, Yola, Nigeria for three years, the University of Oregon, Eugene for two years, the University of Benin, Nigeria for seven years and Western Oregon University for twenty-five years. Currently I am Professor Emeritus of History at Western. I studied at the Presidency College (now University) and the University of Calcutta for my B.A. Honors and Masters in History. Thereafter I studied at the University of Oregon for my M.A. and Ph.D. in history and, additionally, for M.Ed. in Curriculum Development and Philosophy of Education. I specialized in the history of Early Modern England and Europe and I authored seven monographs -- three on the history of Tudor England and four on the Hindu religious leaders of the nineteenth century. I published over sixty research articles, over sixty book-reviews, over forty encyclopedia entries, three major review - essays, three working papers, and chapters in several anthologies -- on European, English, and Indian history and culture. My scholarly classification, as far as English and Indian history is concerned, is that of a revisionist. To assuage my readers' and critics' misgivings, if any I humbly invoke St. Augustine's plea: "Audi partem alteram?" [Hear the other side].
