Prof. Rajeshwar Mittapalli

Dr Rajeshwar Mittapalli has been a Professor of English at several universities in India and overseas—Nalanda University (MEA, Govt. of India), Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University (Saudi Arabia), Kakatiya University (Telangana), and the University of Asmara (Eritrea). During his long career spanning more than three decades, he had also lectured at many universities across the world, including the University of Joensuu (Finland), the University of Turin (Italy), the University of Vigo (Spain) and the University of Colombo (Sri Lanka). He is a widely published scholar with five books and 95 articles to his credit. His latest book, Indian Fiction and Films: Rethinking History, Society, and Culture, has been brought out by Atlantic, New Delhi. He edited the New Delhi-based quarterly, the Atlantic Literary Review, for six years, apart from co-editing with European, American and Indian scholars 30 volumes of critical essays on a variety of literary subjects and ELT. One of these edited volumes is The Male Empire under the Female Gaze: The British Raj and the Memsahib, published by the Amherst (New York)-based Cambria Press. Apart from these scholarly achievements, he has vast experience as an academic administrator. He has just completed a term as Dean of the School of Languages & Literature at Nalanda University. Previously, he had been the Head of the Department of English, Coordinating Officer of the UGC Unit, and a Member of the Executive Council at Kakatiya University. He had also worked as Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Foreign Relations Officer, Chairman of the Board of Studies in English, and Programme Officer of the National Service Scheme. Of late, Prof Mittapalli has developed a keen interest in creative writing and literary translation. A volume of his short stories and three of his translated works—two collections of short stories, and one novel—are now getting ready to go to press.
